    As dire as the situation is, these are the moments that reveal the Vietnamese spirit of charity and compassion, expressed in the proverb that “healthy leaves cover torn leaves.” Donations and aid have come from home and abroad, from students and the elderly, from individuals and organizations.  Many of these benefactors entrusted Caritas Vietnam with their donations.  The following projects are being undertaken in their name.

    On December 3rd, 2020, Caritas Hue organized an expanded sport program to celebrate the International Day of People with Disabilities at the playground of the Continuing Education Center of Thua Thien, Hue Province. The festival brought together more than 200 people with disabilities, parents of people with disabilities, collaborators, and volunteer students.  Participating organizations included the Nước Ngọt Phu Loc Center, led by the sisters of the Congregation of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate; the Be-lem Phu Luong Shelter, operated by the Daughters of Mary Visit; the Hoa Huong Duong Club of Caritas Hue; and the Disabled Children Center of the Long Tho Pagoda and children at Kim Doi Parish.

    In response to Pope Francis’ command to “stretch forth your hand to the poor” (Sir 7:32), on the 4th annual World Day of the Poor, a Caritas Vietnam delegation led by the new National Director, Fr. Joseph Ngo Si Dinh, OP., recently visited and gave gifts to local needy families.
