  • Cylone idai has caused unprecedented havoc in southern Africa. Vast areas of Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe are under water and cut off from the world. More than 1,000 are feared dead.
The storm made landfall on Thursday, but aid teams only reached the city on Sunday.

Caritas Mozambique is importing 1,500 tarps that will go to Beira as soon as possible.

Caritas team in Beira and Zambezia are doing assessments. Antonio Anosso, humanitarian officer for Caritas Mozambique says, “We still facing some challenges in getting informations from Beira because there is no communication. There is lack of food, water and shelter.
“Our priority for staff in the disaster zone is rescuing people, accomodation, registering the affected group. But they do not have resources to respond to food, water and shelter needs.

“Urgent needs are food, iron sheets, water and sanitation, shelter and seeds.”
